Lung Malignancy, Pleural Malignancy
Cancer is a disease that can affect the lungs, airways such as the trachea, the outer pleural covering of the lungs and the chest wall. Usually, patients are incidentally diagnosed with a suspicious lung lesion while being evaluated for other symptoms. Otherwise, patients develop and present with symptoms such as breathing difficulty, cough and loss of weight.
The problem can vary from a small nodule in the lungs to a large mass either inside or outside the lungs. Some patients will have large quantities of plural fluid in the chest. Usually a biopsy procedure needs to be done to confirm the diagnosis, after which treatment will be provided along with the departments of Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology and Radiation therapy.
